Christopher Jared Berger

Chris Berger is a visual artist working mostly as an acrylic painter with experience in other media such as ink, printmaking, pastel and collage work. My works can be described as bright, expressionistic and modern. My goal is to create pieces that the viewer can relate to the viewers experiences.

Born and raised outside Hartford, Connecticut, I spent my childhood drawing and doodling. In high school my interest in art expanded. Enrolling in varied curriculum throughout college, I honed my style and subject matter into expressionism and figurative scenes. Influences include modernists Henri Toulouse Latrec and his Parisian nightlife scenes, the German Expressionists, American regionalist Thomas Hart Benton, and post modern works of Jean Michel Basquiat. Traveling often to New York City's great collection of museums and galleries, my style would continue to develop through the exposure to these collections.

“In my paintings I prefer to take a common situation that people can relate to such as a concert, bar or nightlife experience and depict all the sensory distortions that come from a loud, brightly lit, crowded venue. I exaggerate color, form, space and anatomy to depict how an individual remembers these experiences.”

My pieces vary from standalone paintings to themed series but the style and technique remain consistent, recognizable and unique.
